Magnit Enables Payments with Expired Cards

The chain’s checkouts now accept cashless payments even if the customer’s card has expired. Currently, around 70% of the Company’s POS terminals can process such payments; by the end of the week, the service will be available in all Magnit stores. This will allow customers who were unable to replace their cards due to self-isolation to continue using cashless payments and minimize their contact with cash.

Krasnodar, May 26, 2020: The Company accepts expired cards irrespective of the issuing authority at almost 65 thousand checkout terminals, including self-service checkouts. The Chain’s partner —Sberbank, which services all of Magnit’s POS terminals — has remotely uploaded new software configurations to its equipment.

Due to the restrictions put in place to combat the coronavirus, customers are not always able to replace their expired cards in time. The ability to pay for shopping using an expired card is very relevant for customers visiting Magnit stores, where over a half of all purchases are made using cashless payments. The service will be available until July 1, 2020, but may be extended depending on the situation with the coronavirus.
